Today Stuyvesant fell to Cardozo 3-2 in a cold and long day. Stuyvesant had 10 hits on the day but could not bunch them together. Once again bad base running and missing signs lost us the game. Owen Potter was the starting pitcher but had trouble finding the plate. He was to work around his 6 walks and only give up 2 runs. Khyber Sen came in and held down the fort but in the end gave up the walkoff hit in the bottom of the seventh. Malcolm Hubbell, Jeremy Rubin and Max Onderdonk all had a multi- hit game but 10 strikeouts on the day hurt us as well in key situations.
Next week the Peglegs will be playing Norman Thomas HS at the parade grounds on Wednesday and Friday, weather permitting. Come out and get us back on a winning streak.

Stuyvesant Falls To Benjamin Cardozo HS On Walkoff

A walk-off left Stuyvesant on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat to Benjamin Cardozo HS on Friday. The game was tied at two with Cardozo batting in the bottom of the seventh when Santos singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Cardozo pitchers struck out ten, while Stuyvesant sat down five. In the first inning, the Peglegs got their offense started when Max Onderdonk grounded out, scoring one run. In the top of the sixth inning, Stuyvesant tied things up at two.

Owen Potter toed the rubber for Stuyvesant. He surrendered two runs on one hit over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Khyber Sen threw three and a third innings in relief. Stuyvesant racked up ten hits on the day. Onderdonk, Malcolm Hubbell, and Jeremy Rubin all managed multiple hits for the Peglegs. Rubin, Hubbell, and Onderdonk each collected two hits to lead Stuyvesant, which stole five bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Onderdonk led the way with two.

Today the Peglegs fell to Francis Lewis by the score of 6-2. The lack of situational hitting and defense cost us the game. Malcolm Hubbell and Matthew Deutsch only gave up 2 earned runs in the loss. The only offensive bright spot was Franklin Liou who went 3-3 including his first PSAL homerun.
The Peglegs are now 5-2 in league play. Tomorrow we will be visiting Cardozo HS in Queens.

Stuyvesant Outdone By Francis Lewis, 6-2

Stuyvesant opened up scoring in the first inning, when Simon Carmody singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.
Francis Lewis pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third Pena doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Ramirez’s sac fly scored one run for Francis Lewis, and Pagiatakis singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Malcolm Hubbell took the loss for Stuyvesant. He lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out five.

Stuyvesant tallied nine hits. Franklin Liou and Carmody each racked up multiple hits. Liou led the team with three hits in three at bats.

Congratulations to the Peglegs on their 5th win of the season. The Peglegs defeated John Adams HS 3-2 at the parade grounds today. Jared Asch threw a complete game giving up just 4 hits and 1 earned run. The Peglegs did not have much offense either but wore down one to the best pitchers in the league and capitalized on key mistakes made by Adams defense. The key point of the game was Micheal Gillow throwing a runner out at the plate early in the game and smart base running by Max Onderdonk and Khyber Sen. You guys never gave up!!!
This was a great win!

Stuyvesant snagged a late lead and defeated John Adams 3-2 on Wednesday. The game was tied at two with Stuyvesant batting in the bottom of the fifth when an error scored one run for Stuyvesant. The pitching was strong on both sides. Jared Asch struck out eight, while Perez-rosa sat down eight.

Asch earned the win for Stuyvesant. He lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out eight and walking one. Perez-rosa took the loss for John Adams. He allowed two hits and three runs over six innings, striking out eight.

Michael Gillow and Max Onderdonk each managed one hit to lead Stuyvesant.

A relieved team congratulates itself

Once again the Peglegs came from behind to beat Newtown 6-5 at the Pier. Malcolm Hubbell had a rough start on the mound but got better as the game went on. Matthew Deutsch came in relief and pretty much shut down the opposition’s offense. Michael Gillow had a 2 run homer in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 1. Patient at bats, great blocking by Jeremy Rubinbehind the dish and Jared Asch flashing some leather at 3rd gave us our 4th win of the young season.
Another great team win!!!!! Great going guys.

Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity Clinches Lead In Fifth Inning For Victory Over Newtown HS

Stuyvesant stole the lead late and defeated Newtown HS 6-5 on Wednesday. The Peglegs were down 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning when the tying and go-ahead runs scored. Stuyvesant earned the victory despite allowing Newtown to score three runs in the first inning. Newtown’s big inning was driven by an error on a ball put in play by Batista-espinal and a double by Cesar Garcia.

Malcolm Hubbell was on the mound for Stuyvesant. He allowed five hits and five runs over four and a third innings, striking out four. Jeremy Rubin, Justin Heinze, Michael Gillow, and Max Onderdonk each collected one hit to lead Stuyvesant.

Today the Stuyvesant Peglegs beat the Pioneers of Newtown 7-6 in a final inning nail biter in the cold. Jared Asch gave us a stellar performance on the mound throwing 6.1 innings of 3 hit ball. The Peglegs got some very timely hitting and great at bats against a very good pitcher. The last inning is something I’d like to forget but we kept our composure and ended the game with a 6-4-3 double play with the tying run on third. Malcolm Hubbell made a great scoop to cap off the DP. 3-1 in league play now.
Next game is at Pier 40 against Newtown again. The game will start at 4:15pm.

Stuyvesant Varsity Holds Onto Victory As Newtown HS Almost Erases 6-Run Deficit

Despite seeing its six-run lead whittled down by the end, Stuyvesant still held off Newtown HS for a 7-6 victory on Monday. Newtown HS scored five runs in the failed comeback on a error, a double by Genesis Nunez, and a single by Cesar Garcia.

Stuyvesant earned the victory despite allowing Newtown HS to score five runs in the seventh inning. Newtown HS fired up the offense in the first inning. Gonzalez drove in one when he doubled. Stuyvesant pulled away for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Batista-espinal’s wild pitch allowed one run to score, and Batista-espinal induced Sam Merrick to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.

Stuyvesant tallied three runs in the seventh inning. The Peglegs were led by Simon Carmody, Jeremy Rubin, and Franklin Liou, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Jared Asch earned the win for Stuyvesant. He lasted six and a third innings, allowing three hits and three runs while striking out seven. Rubin threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Rubin recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Stuyvesant.

Michael Gillow led Stuyvesant with two hits in four at bats. Malcolm Hubbell led Stuyvesant with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with six stolen bases.

Newtown HS tallied six hits on the day. Nunez and Reyes each collected multiple hits for Newtown HS.

Yesterday the Peglegs dropped their first game of the season to West 50th Street Campus 2-1. The old saying is true “Good pitching stops good hitting.” The Peglegs left 11 men on base and couldn’t get that big hit yesterday. Owen Potter made his pitching debut for Stuy, 2.2 innings 7 strikeouts and 4 walks and 2 earned runs. Matthew Deutsch then came in for relief and kept us in the game throwing 3.1 innings with 1 walk and 1 strike and 0 runs. The Peglegs go into the break 2-1 in the division still in first place.

West 50th Street Campus Bests Stuyvesant Varsity In Close Game

Both teams were strong on the mound on Thursday, but West 50th street campus was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Stuyvesant on Thursday. Owen Potter started the game for Stuyvesant and recorded eight outs. Stuyvesant lost despite out-hitting West 50th street campus six to five.

Potter took the loss for Stuyvesant. He surrendered two runs on three hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Jared Asch went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Peglegs. Stuyvesant didn’t commit a single error in the field. Malcolm Hubbell had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.

The Stuyvesant Peglegs defeated West 50th Street Campus today by a score of 11-1 in 5 innings. Outstanding pitching by Malcolm Hubbell for his first Stuyvesant win. Malcolm gave up 1 unearned run on 2 hits and 49 pitches in the 5 inning mercy. Malcolm also added a triple into the left centerfield gap. Jeremy Rubin and Max Onderdonk both had a multi- hit game. Max stole 4 bases on the day. Good base running and key hits were the dominant factor in today’s game. Congrats guys. Let do it again tomorrow and go into the break 3-0.

Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity Defeats West 50th Street Campus In A Blow-Out Victory

Stuyvesant had no trouble on offense today, winning big over West 50th street campus 11-1. The Peglegs got on the board in the first inning when a wild pitch allowed Max Onderdonk to score from third. Jeremy Rubin followed up with a single, driving in Michael Gillow. Simon Carmody drove in Franklin Liou, also with a single. In the second inning, Stuyvesant put up five runs, on RBIs from Onderdonk, Rubin, Malcolm Hubbell, and Jared Asch.

Hubbell got the win for Stuyvesant. He surrendered one run on two hits over five innings, striking out four and walking zero. Stuyvesant tallied eight hits on the day. Onderdonk and Rubin all managed multiple hits. Onderdonk went 3-for-4 at the plate. The Peglegs stole ten bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Onderdonk led the way with four.

I’d like to announce that the Peglegs won their first league game today 5-2 over Bayside HS. The cold day saw Jared Asch throw 6 strong innings and 84 pitches and Jeremy Rubin come in for the save. We got the big hit from Mike Gillow, a 3 run homer and a big insurance hit by Malcolm Hubbell. The defense was solid with no errors and cap by Khyber Sen throwing a runner out at the plate from right field. This was a good solid win. Next up is West 50th Street Campus at Pier 40 Wednesday at 4pm.

Stuyvesant’s Varsity baseball team outscored Bayside 5-2 on Sunday in the inaugural contest of the PSAL season. Jared Asch pitched effectively and resourcefully, scattering ten hits and two runs over six innings, striking out five and walking none. Michael Gillow broke the game open with a three-run home run. Malcolm Hubbell went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Stuyvesant in hits. The Peglegs were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit any errors. Simon Carmody had the most chances in the field with seven.
