Yesterday the Peglegs dropped their first game of the season to West 50th Street Campus 2-1. The old saying is true “Good pitching stops good hitting.” The Peglegs left 11 men on base and couldn’t get that big hit yesterday. Owen Potter made his pitching debut for Stuy, 2.2 innings 7 strikeouts and 4 walks and 2 earned runs. Matthew Deutsch then came in for relief and kept us in the game throwing 3.1 innings with 1 walk and 1 strike and 0 runs. The Peglegs go into the break 2-1 in the division still in first place.

West 50th Street Campus Bests Stuyvesant Varsity In Close Game

Both teams were strong on the mound on Thursday, but West 50th street campus was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Stuyvesant on Thursday. Owen Potter started the game for Stuyvesant and recorded eight outs. Stuyvesant lost despite out-hitting West 50th street campus six to five.

Potter took the loss for Stuyvesant. He surrendered two runs on three hits over two and two-thirds innings, striking out seven. Jared Asch went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Peglegs. Stuyvesant didn’t commit a single error in the field. Malcolm Hubbell had eight chances in the field, the most on the team.
