It is with great disappointment that I have to report that the Stuyvesant Peglegs season came to end today with a loss to Staten Island Tech HS, 3-0. Though this loss hurt, I wouldn’t have traded this season for the world. I want to thank all the seniors for all your hard work over the years and to the parents who put up with us too. Thank you to our captains Jack Archer, Tobias Lange, Solomon Medintz and Kenneth Chu for leading us to the best seeding Stuyvesant has ever had. Thanks to the rest of the seniors Joseph Halim, Lucian Wells, Danny Gendler, Daniel Scherzer, Dean Steinman, Sebastian Dittgen, and Wilson Wong. You will be greatly missed.

Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity Loses Lead Early In Defeat

Stuyvesant watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 3-0 loss to McKee/SI Tech on Wednesday. SI Tech took the lead on a single in the first inning. The pitching was strong on both sides. SI Tech pitchers struck out one, while Stuyvesant sat down six.

One bright spot for Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity was a single by Max Onderdonk in the fourth inning. Onderdonk led Stuyvesant with two hits in two at bats. Stuyvesant was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Malcolm Hubbell had the most chances in the field with seven.

The 2017 baseball regular season has come to a close to with a walk-off win over Bryant HS. Malcolm Hubbell had two hits today including the game winner in the bottom of the 9th to score Dean Steinman from 2nd base. The final score was 1-0. Good defense and great pitching kept us in the game. Tobias Lange and Jack Archer combined for the shut-out.

Peglegs celebrate walkoff win.

The Peglegs finished the season with an amazing 12-4 record in the PSAL’s AAA division which is no small feat. It is the best record Stuyvesant has had since I’ve been coaching. We now have to wait until tomorrow night for the playoff seeding. The playoffs will begin on Wednesday May 24th and the game will be played at Pier 40, thanks to Mike Schneider, giving his GVLL field time to us.

I want to thank everyone for all your help this season especially our seniors for all their had work through the years. Hopefully, you guys can carry us a little longer.

Coach Hahn and I are so very proud of the whole team for what you’ve accomplished this year. Your hard work, dedication, commitment has paid off.

Hubbell’s Walkoff Gives Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity Victory Over Bryant

Stuyvesant defeated Bryant 1-0 on Friday thanks to a walk-off single. The game was tied at zero with Stuyvesant batting in the bottom of the ninth, when Malcolm Hubbell singled, driving in Dean Steinman, who had walked and advanced to second on a fielder’s choice.

Tobias Lange started things off strong for Stuyvesant, as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Stuyvesant pitchers struck out nine on the way to victory. Jack Archer earned the win for the Peglegs. He tossed three innings, allowing no runs and no hits, striking out two, and walking none. Compres took the loss for Bryant. He threw three and two-thirds innings, giving up one run, two hits, and striking out six.

Lange started the game for Stuyvesant. He pitched six innings, allowing no runs, four hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Strawsacker started the game for Bryant. He tossed five innings, giving up zero runs, four hits, and striking out six. Stuyvesant had six hits in the game. Hubbell and Archer each collected two hits to lead Stuyvesant. Stuyvesant was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Hubbell made the most plays with 11.

Today the Peglegs dropped their 4th game of the season to Benjamin Cardozo HS 10-0. We were only able to manage 2 hits. Jack Archer threw 4 innings of 1 hit ball against a strong team but our bullpen had some problems. Our next and final game of the season will be a make up game against Bryant HS at the parade grounds fields starting at 4:30. We will have to wait until Sunday to see what kind of playoff seeding we get. Hopefully a home playoff game.

Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity Can’t Hold Up Against Benjamin Cardozo HS

The Peglegs couldn’t keep up with Benjamin Cardozo Hs and fell 10-0 on Tuesday. Cardozo scored four runs in the sixth inning. One bright spot for Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity was a single by Kenny Chu in the first inning.

Malik Miller earned the win for Cardozo. He tossed seven innings, surrendering zero runs, two hits, striking out four, and walking one. Jack Archer took the loss for Stuyvesant. He pitched four innings, surrendering four runs, one hit, and striking out five. Malcolm Hubbell and Chu each managed one hit for Stuyvesant.

Stuy JV wins, 10-2 behind Max Mah’s impressive 4 innings (2H 7k 0 ER) and Isaac Chasen closing things out. (We walked only 2 batters in 6 innings.) Offense was team effort with 9 hits, incl. two doubles/2 rbi by Franklin Liou, 2 rbi by Matthew Deutsch and 4 SBs by Daniel Kim.

Stuyvesant Peglegs JV Jumps Out To Early Lead In Victory Over Manhattan Center For Science & Math

Stuyvesant grabbed an early lead on its way to a 10-2 victory over Manhattan Center for Science & Math on Tuesday. Stuyvesant scored on a single by Max Mah and a single by Matt Deutsch in the first inning. Mah earned the win for the Peglegs. He went four innings, giving up one run, two hits, striking out seven, and walking one. Matt Deutsch and Frank Liou each drove in two runs to lead Stuyvesant., which stole 12 bases during the game, as three players stole more than one. Daniel Kim led the way with two.

Today the Peglegs improved their record to 11-3 with a win over John Bowne HS 7-5. Jared Asch gave us 5 strong innings of 4 hit ball, Max Onderdonk went 4-4 and scored twice, and Solomon Medintz had 2 RBI’s.
Our next game is Tuesday against Cardozo HS at the Parade Grounds at 4:30pm.
We still have to make up a game against Bryant HS this week too.

Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity Holds Off John Bowne HS For Victory

Despite seeing its seven-run lead whittled down by the end, Stuyvesant Varsity still held off John Bowne HS for a 7-5 victory on Friday. John Bowne scored five runs in the failed comeback in the sixth and seventh innings.

Max Onderdonk collected four hits in four at bats to help lead Stuyvesant to victory. Onderdonk singled in the first, singled in the second, singled in the fifth, and singled in the sixth. Stuyvesant took an early lead in the first inning. Dean Steinman hit an RBI single in the first.

Jared Asch earned the win for Stuyvesant. He went five innings, allowing zero runs, four hits, and striking out three. Jeremy Rubin recorded the last six outs to earn the save. Diaz took the loss for John Bowne HS.

Solomon Medintz led Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day. Stuyvesant tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Onderdonk led the way with four.

Stuy JV opened Division games with a solid 11-3 win over Randolph, played at Inwood. Cooper Nissenbaum threw 4 innings of 1-hit ball, striking out 6 (allowing 1 ER). Game was 3-3 until Matthew Deutsch helped break it open in the 3rd with an RBI double (he tripled, next AB). Owen Potter and Frank Liou drove in two, scored two and had 2 stolen bases apiece. Good defense was highlighted by Leo Greenleaf’s two running catches in LF, turning what seemed like sure extra-base hits into rally-ending outs.

Stuyvesant Peglegs JV Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Randolph Campus

Stuyvesant took the lead for good in the second inning to capture a back-and-forth game from Randolph Campus by an 11-3 score on Friday. The game was tied at three with the Peglegs batting in the top of the second when Frank Liou grounded out, scoring one run.

Stuyvesant Peglegs JV took an early lead in the first inning and added three runs in the second inning. Matt Deutsch doubled in one run. Stuyvesant scored six runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to a triple by Deutsch, a single by Owen Potter, and a error.

Cooper Nissenbaum earned the win for Stuyvesant, going four innings, surrendering three runs, one hit, and striking out six. Deutsch, Potter, and Frank Liou each drove in two runs to lead Stuyvesant.The Peglegs stole five bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Liou led the way with two.

The Peglegs dropped their third game of the season falling to West 50th Street Campus HS 7-1. Only highlight was Jack Archer’s RBI triple late in the game. Jack had two hits on the day. The Peglegs had many miscues and silent bats today.
The next game is Friday against John Bowne HS in Queens. The Peglegs will look for redemption after their playoff loss to John Bowne last year.

Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-1 loss to West 50th Street on Wednesday. West 50th Street took the lead on a stolen base in the first inning and three runs in the fourth. Jack Archer went 2-for-3 at the plate for Stuyvesant, and he led the team with one run batted in.

Today the Peglegs improved their record to 10-2 with the defeat of West 50th Street HS. Final score 3-1. Jack Archer was great on the mound scattering 6 hits over 6 1/3 innings with 5 K’s and 1 earned run. Jeremy Rubin came in to get the final two outs. Kenneth Chu had two hit and Max Onderdonk came up big with a two strike RBI hit. Max had 2 RBI’s on the day and Solomon Medintz had the other. Great win today guys, let take another Wednesday.

Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity Defeats West 50th Street In Low-Scoring Affair

Both teams were strong on the mound Monday, but Stuyvesant PEGLEGS Varsity defeated West 50th Street 3-1. Stuyvesant pitchers allowed just six hits to West 50th Street.

Jack Archer earned the win for Stuyvesant  He went six and a third innings, allowing one run, six hits, and striking out five. Jeremy Rubin recorded the last two outs to earn the save. Prospero Perez took the loss for West 50th Street. He pitched four and a third innings, allowing three runs, six hits, and striking out six.

Kenny Chu led Stuyvesant with two hits in three at bats.
