There were 2 league games circled on our schedule to start the season and both of them were against GW. When you talk about dominant public high school baseball,  GW is always in the conversation.

In the first meeting Stuy was victorious 3-0 behind a complete game 1-hitter by Mantas. In fact Mantas was so dominant game after game that he was promoted to varsity shortly thereafter, as was Victor. In one move Stuy JV’s top 2 pitchers were gone.

But the mark of a great team is the ability and the desire to elevate their game in all other phases.

Stuy JV is a great team.  It’s been a number of games without an error. The hitting has picked up and Charles and William have pitched brilliantly.

That was never more evident than in yesterday’s second game against a GW team whose only loss was the one against us. This time it was in their ballpark and they had not promoted any players up to varsity.

Final score Stuy 14, GW 2. In fact after 4 innings GW said No Mas. Charles pitched a magnificant game,  Lucas made his usual spectacular catch,  Chris literally ran into the right field fence trying to field a big shot from the GW third baseman but rebounded to make a perfect throw to Kerrick who made a perfect throw to Kenny at third who applied the tag for the out.

One of the GW coaches came over to me and said “Coach, you have a great team. ”  He was right.
