The Wrath Hitmen were victorious for a second time this season on the strong performance of pitcher Iravan Bhattacharyya. He gave up one run and two hits while striking out six for the win against the Staten Island Orioles. For the first time this season the Hitmen lived up to the team name, highlighted by a string of hits in the fourth inning with runners in scoring position. Bhattacharyya had a scorching triple to left field that ignited the team’s bats and Jeremy Lee contributed a pair of singles. Julian Duran, Jordan Gray, Sam Levine, Paul Liou and Chris Liu joined the hit parade. On defense, after a sloppy first inning, the Hitmen looked sharper. Catcher Adam Lucey gunned down two consecutive runners at second base to take the wind out of the Orioles. Ethan Lin and Levine pitched in relief. Levine posted three innings of shutout ball, striking out six.
“It was nice to see the bats come alive today, racking up 11 hits,” Coach Carlesi said. “It was also nice to see our pitching quiet our opponent’s bats, giving up only two hits, and catcher Adam Lucy throw out two runners trying to steal. As a team we need to polish up some things — our pitchers need to stop giving up free bases with walks and our defense has to play cleaner. Overall, it was a solid win.”
