The Peglegs opened up their pre-season today with a 7-1 victory over the Trinity Tigers in 5 innings.

On the mound, we looked great:  Iravan Bhattacharyya started the game and was stellar. After giving up a run in the top of the first, Iravan blanked the Tigers for the next 3 innngs. Sam Levine came in to shut the door in the last inning, striking out four in the frame.

At the plate on on the bases, we were off to a great start as well:  Smart, aggressive base running by Paul Liou and Jeremy Lee led to runs.  We also had great situational hitting and productive outs by Peter Carini, Ethan Lin and Julian Malenda.

This was a total team effort and our defense was perfect.  It was great to return to a newly renovated Pier 40 and get a W against a very talented Trinity team.

It was also a weird to return to the pier without coach Matt Hahn being there.  I have to say it was very tough for me not to think about him every inning today. I’ve been so used to looking over at the end of the dugout and seeing him sitting there writing his little notes so he could give his recap at our end of game meeting on how the played.
I know he was looking down at the game today and he was proud of way the we played today.

Great job boys!

Coach Carlesi said: “Today the Peglegs played their final game on a Covid shorten season. Even though it was a short season it felt like it lasted for ever. Unfortunately, the game today didn’t go our way again. Lack of quality starting pitching and situational hitting hurt us again. For the first time in 15 years the Peglegs were mercied on back to back games. Not the way we wanted to end the season for our seniors but none the less we will miss them.
Thank you Luca Bielski, Jordan Gray, Rohan Saha, and Julian Singer for all the time and effort you have put in over the years. I do want to recognize Luca Bielski for being an outstanding captain!! Although an injury to his throwing arm forced him from behind the plate and pretty much on the bench, he never stopped being the captain! Always there to help out other teammates and do what he can to help the team. A true team player!!
Thank you guys,
We love you!!!”

Coach Carlesi said: “So today was a game we’d all like to forget. For the first time in close to 5 years the Peglegs got mercied. Final score 17-2.
Unfortunately, our pitching was not there. We walked 13 and hit 2 batters. Giving a good team that many free bases is a recipe for a loss.
Hopefully, tomorrow we bounce back against the same teams!!”

Stuyvesant Peglegs claimed a 10-4 victory over the Gators of Inwood today. Jordan Gray fired up the offense in the first inning with a productive out scoring 1 run. The Peglegs than added 4 more runs in the 4th inning. Julian Duran, Sam Levine added singles and Iravan Bhattacharyya had a double in the inning. The Peglegs collected 9 hits on the day. Ethan Kirschner and Sam Levine each had multiple hits. Kirschner had a triple and single. Levine has a double and a single. Paul Liou added a 2 run double late in the game to put the game away along with Adam Lucey’s RBI single in the 6th. Bhattacharyya pitched a complete game allowing 3 hits and 4 runs while striking out 5.

Coach Carlesi said: “The Peglegs did not commit an error today!! We pulled off a 6-3-5 double play on some great throws. Great job guys!!”

Both teams were strong on the pitcher’s mound on Monday, but Manhattan Center HS was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Peglegs. Paul Liou started the game for the Peglegs and recorded 18 outs, allowing four hits and one run while striking out seven. Liou also led the Peglegs with two hits in three at bats.

Coach Carlesi said, “I’ve been waiting to write this in 20 years. We beat George Washington yesterday by the score of 7-6 in a rain shortened game. The game went 6 innings so it was an official game. According to Coach Hahn it was the first time in close to 50 years that Stuyvesant has defeated GW.

The game was a nail biter, Iravan Bhattacharyya was stellar on the mound tossing 3 run ball in 4 innings. Iravan struck 6 batters and gave up only 2 hits while walking 3. We finally got the big hits today from Ethan Kirschner with a 2 out, 2 strike single that scored 2 and Jonathan Lee with a 2 out, 2 strike double that scored 2. Jordan Gray had the biggest hit with a single off the fence in the bottom of the 6th to give us the lead. There were also great defensive plays by Sam Levine with a diving play at SS on a hard hit line drive. Jonathan Lee with a sliding catch in left field and again Adam Lucey throwing out a runner at 3rd on a suicide squeeze play that the batter missed.

The best quote came from Coach Hahn yesterday saying, ‘I can die now knowing we finally beat GW.’

We are very proud of the boys who simply did not give up!! Congratulations boys!!”
