Now a new mound dilemma has erupted over the movable pitching mound being used for baseball on the new Pier 40 courtyard FieldTurf sports field. The mound was used last Thursday for a scrimmage between Stuyvesant and Xavier.
Because the field is multiuse for multiple sports there cannot be a permanent mound as it would limit the flexibility of the field’s use.
As soon as he finished his swing yesterday, Peter Horn knew the ball was gone. "That's one of those great feelings," the Stuyvesant slugger said. "I smoked it. That's the first homer I've hit where I knew it was gone when I hit it.
"Horn's grand slam rallied the Peglegs from a three-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Peglegs a 10-9 victory over Taft in the Monroe Tournament. It completed a 3-for-3 day for Horn.
