Ethan struck out the side in the last inning after giving up a single with 2 base error. Finally we hit the big hit by Jeremy Lee with a 2 out double that scored 2. Adam Lucey threw out another 2 runners attempting to steal. Nice job boys!”

Coach Carlesi said of this nonleague PSAL game: “Today was a very heart warming return to Pier 40. After a 2 year absence, the Peglegs were victorious over the Lab school 6-1. Playing on the newly surfaced field was so surreal. The bounces were clean and I didn’t come home covered in turf. My wife was very happy.
Paul Liou threw 5 scoreless innings striking out 10. Sam Levine came in to close out the last two innings. Adam Lucey had another great day in the batter box as well as behind the plate. Adam went 2-2 and gunned down another two runners trying to steal. Jeremy Lee went 2-3, Iravan Bhattacharyya and Jordan Gray both had doubles. The Peglegs accumulated 9 hits today.”

The Peglegs dropped their first game of the PSAL season to uptown rival Beacon 2 to 0. Both teams were strong on the mound. Paul Liou started the game for the Peglegs and recorded nine outs. The righty allowed zero hits and one run over three innings, striking out four. The Peglegs lost despite out-hitting Beacon three to one. Iravan Bhattacharyya threw three innings in relief. Jeremy Lee, Bhattacharyya, and Sam Levine each managed one hit to lead the team. “Unfortunately, we fell short to Beacon in a pitchers duel,” Coach Carlesi said. “We played well but just couldn’t get the big hit.”

In the final pre-season warmup before the first PSAL game, the Wrath Hitmen played solid baseball despite a five to four defeat against Eleanor Roosevelt. Ethan Kirschner toed the rubber for the Hitmen and shined with remarkable pitch location. He surrendered two runs on two hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out ten and walking one. Catchers Adam Lucey and Jordan Gray each threw out a baserunner, shutting down the opponent’s running game. But Eleanor Roosevelt’s hitting picked up in the final innings and a few costly plays handed them the game. Ben Harwayne threw two-thirds of an inning in relief. Julian Singer went two-for-three at the plate to lead the team in hits.

Knights | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 3 | 4 | 1 |
Wrath Hitmen suffered their second loss of the season to the Brooklyn Knights 3-2. The Hitmen couldn’t capitalize with two runners on base in the first inning after a hit by Luca Bielski. Then the powerful top of the order hitters for the Knights slammed several balls deep into the outfield but only scored one. The Hitmen kept the game close with solid defense, committing no errors, and highlighted by one of the best throws of the season by Jeremy Lee in center field to nail the runner at the plate. Ethan Kirschner was stout on the mound in five innings, giving up 2 runs and five hits and only one walk. Isaac Lageschulte showed fine poise, pitching out of jams in relief, letting up one run with four strikeouts and three walks. Sam Levine continued his hot streak with two hits.
“Tough lost today,” Coach Carlesi said. “Great pitching by Ethan. Very good defense by Jeremy by throwing out a runner at the plate on a tag up. Jonathan Lee gave us a chance by hitting a two out single that tied the game. That was set up by a great bunt by Paul Liou and he beat it out. We left too many people in scoring position today and not getting the big hit.”
