Welcome Coach Tingos

We are happy to announce that last week we hired Gerard Tingos as our new JV coach. Coach Tingos is a former division 1 player from LIU where he served an assistant coach after graduation. He currently coaches the Staten Island Dynasty summer travel team where he has been very successful. He is in the process of getting all the required PSAL certifications to be able to coach. Once he has completed all his certifications the JV practices will resume on a normal schedule. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

From Coaches Carlesi and Hahn

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Coach McCarthy will be unable to coach the Junior Vasity team this year. He has been approached by his new school, Millenium HS, to coach their new girls softball team. This is a new team that Millenium has petitioned eight months for and finally has been ok’ed by the PSAL. Coach McCarthy is currently the girls basketball coach at Millenium so he was the obvious and only choice. Coach McCarthy feels terrible about the short notice but if he does not take this job the team will fold and have to wait another year to petition again.

Coach McCarthy has been a vital part of our JV program for the past three years and we wish him all the best.

P.S. We have a couple of coaches interested in the position and I have been in contact with the AD so we should have a replacement shortly.

Schedule for the upcoming JV Florida trip

  • Sun. 2/15 Practice, 4 – 6 PM
  • Mon. 2/16 Practice, 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM
  • Tue. 2/17 Practice, 9:30 AM – 1 PM | Game vs. All American Prospects (Fla. team) 7 PM
  • Wed. 2/18 Practice, 9:30 AM – 11 AM | Game vs. Connetquot BB Club, 12 PM
  • Thu. 2/19 Game vs. Connetquot BB Club, 10 AM | Practice, 7 – 10 PM
  • Fri. 2/20 Practice, 9 AM – 12 PM

Coach Carlesi – 2014 PSAL Coach of the Year

Congratulations Coach, from all of us – it is well deserved.

2014 PSAL Coach of the Year AwardThe PSAL Officials proudly present this award to the coach who shows the respect, competitiveness, and professionalism in conducting himself with his team, his school, and the officials he works with. Your conduct on and off the field truly makes you a worthy recipient of our award. We are honored and privileged to have you on the field providing the young men of our future with integrity, respect, and sportmanship for the game of baseball. Your players are truly blessed to have a coach like you to lead them into the future.

I just wanted to thank the players and parents for all the hard work you put in last year. Without you this wouldn’t have been possible. I also wanted to thank Coach Hahn, because without him Stuy baseball would not be where it is today. He is truly the soul of our school team. So I just wanted to share this award with him.

Thank you again to all the players I have had the privilege to coach. – John Carlesi

Annual Parent Meeting

Dear Baseball Parents,

Please mark your calendars for our annual Parent Welcome and Information Meeting on Wednesday, November 19, at 6:30 p.m. in Stuyvesant’s 5th Floor Cafeteria.

The coaches ask that all parents, both new and returning, attend this important meeting.

Coach Carlesi, Coach Hahn, and Coach McCarthy will present information about the upcoming season, winter workouts, JV and Varsity spring training trips, and overall expectations and requirements for all players.

We will introduce our board members and talk about the various events and fundraisers that we are planning for this spring.

We welcome new and returning parents to get involved and help with our organization in all ways, including the events committee, the alumni outreach committee, and our website. In addition, please let us know if you are someone with legal/organizational experience in the non-profit world. Friends of Stuyvesant Baseball is a 501c(3) and we want to make sure that we are fulfilling all of our ongoing obligations properly. Come and learn more about what we do and what you can do. Join a terrific community of parents — and, of course, help the Stuyvesant baseball team.

Please RSVP by 11/17/14 to pres.fsb@stuybaseball.org to let us know that you’ll be there. Refreshments will be served.
